Paphiopedilum Maudiae 'femma' New to The Ginger Jungle and oh dear I can feel a new obsession with the orchid family creeping into my life! With over 25,000 different species. This could be dangerous! hah! Paphiopedilum (pronounced paf-ee-oh-ped-i-lum) has more than 90 species and all Paphiopedilum are characterised by both a cup-like lip called the pouch which gives them the common name of lady slippers! Paphiopedilum Maudiae 'femma' is a very old hybrid between Paphiopedilum callosum and Paphiopedilum lawrenceanum that has stood the test of time for more than 100 years!
Care: Watering - Paphiopedilum Maudiae 'femma' needs weekly watering you may need to take some time to get the watering habit perfect. This involves keeping the growing medium moist but not wet (at all times), these typically need to be watered every five to seven days but weather and home conditions may change this needs. (you are better to underwater to start with than overwater) Don't let her dry out completely because bark becomes very difficult to re-wet. If this happens submerge the whole pot in a pot of water until moistness has been restored.
Light- Paphiopedilum enjoys medium light. Avoid direct sun, except in the early morning. If the sun is to hot move her further back.
Size: Pot Diameter 9cm - Total height is approximately 35cm
Toxicity: Non-Toxic to pets
Feeding: General, the majority of houseplants should be fed every 2nd watering during the growing season (Spring and Summer), for me, it's about which every 14 days. In autumn and winter, I feed less, as indoor plants will require fewer nutrients.
